Recorder Concert kicks off "Music in our Schools Month"

More events scheduled

March is Music in our Schools Month. Tuesday night at Nishna Valley, the third, fourth and fifth grade students from Malvern and Nishna Valley, and EMMS performed before a good sized crowd.  The third graders opened the concert with four numbers. A recorder favorite, Zippy Toad, was featured in two of the songs. The students were asked which was their favorite -it was a split between the slow "Peaceful River" and "Zippy Toad Slide".  The third graders did an excellent job!

Mr. Ross' fifth grade music students entertained the crowd with three American dances. They performed a square dance and two folk dances. They were fun to watch and the audience really enjoyed them.

The third and fourth graders played together a number called "Fanfare for a New Planet." Then they played several more songs including "Follow the Drinking Gourd" which included rhythm instruments and "Brazilian Bobsled" a salute to the Olympics.  The favorite by far in the fourth grade was the last number called "Sage and Taylor's Wagtime Band". This was a ragtime tune played as a duet. The fourth graders really made the recorders sound fantastic!

At the concert, we used a new boom box purchased by the Music Boosters organization. It's a great addition. Thanks!

The next musical performance will be on Tues. March 9 as the middle and high school students perform at 7 pm at EMHS. On the 12th the NV third and fourth graders will come over to Chantry to perform their recorder numbers for the lower elementary students. Finally on the 17th, Malvern and NV fourth graders and EMMS fifth graders will attend the Carnegie LinkUp! performance in Omaha at the Holland Center for the Performing Arts. They will also be touring the Omaha Community Playhouse facilities in the afternoon.

Thanks for your continuing support of our school music programs!
